The Southampton Community Band was found in 1998. Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of our
founding director Dr. Gildo Gugliemi, an initialy small ensemble today consists of more than 60 members.
Dr. Gil (as he is affectionately called) currently serves as Director Emeritus and continues to lead our big band ensemble.
Marvin Feld serves as the director and principal conductor of the band while Michael Regosch serves
as the associate conductor.
Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings. Our concert season consists of four subscription concerts and various outdoor
concerts.
Mission Statement:
The
purposes of the Southampton Community Band are to provide musical enjoyment, educational opportunities, and participation
in a concert band setting available to all interested musicians and music lovers. To enrich the cultural environment,
foster an appreciative knowledge of legitimate band literature, and encourage the development of musicians, regardless of
age, gender, race, or ethnicity, through concerts and mentoring (side by side rehearsals). To promote a spirit of neighborhood
involvement that will ensure a lasting fine arts legacy and provide scholarships to our college bound graduating seniors.
To dedicate an annual concert for all branches of the armed forces.
Immediate Goals/Aims:
Acquire a permanent home or rehearsal hall for
the Band with acoustical integrity, adequate rehearsal facilities, and sufficient storage for instruments, music, etc.
Long Term Goals/Aims:
Continue our site-search for a cultural arts center
where music, theater, and all the arts will flourish. Here our children and grandchildren will attend concerts, perform
in ballets, plays, musicals, and view art works. Here the old and the young will interact and be assured of an outlet
for all their artistic endeavors.
